Transfer as a central aspect of the faculty's future concept

Importance and goals of transfer for the faculty

he Faculty of History, Art and Area Studies (GKR) sees it as a central task to contribute to an open and democratic discourse with all actors in society and to strengthen the public image of the university as a place of creativity and interdisciplinarity.

This claim finds its implementation in numerous activities that strive to have an impact on society through various formats of transfer, both within teaching and beyond.

Making existing transfer offers visible

The faculty is currently in the process of bundling its existing offers in the area of transfer. The large number of individual initiatives should be made more visible and thus enable networking that goes beyond this.

Within the faculty - based on a comprehensive and systematic inventory of transfer activities in recent years (2017-2019) - three transfer areas can currently be identified as particularly strong and profile-defining:

  • knowledge transfer via the faculty's own museums and collections
  • the offers in the area of service learning
  • the diverse measures in academic continuing education and counselling

Strengthening resources

The central resource for knowledge transfer at the GKR is and remains the voluntary commitment of individual teachers. Here, the limits of the resources available to the subjects have been reached. In order to be able to maintain such offers in the future, expand them and bundle them into larger initiatives, professionalisation is needed in the future, which can only succeed on the basis of additional and explicit transfer resources.
