Since september 2020, Ulrich Demmer is interim representing the chair of Anthropology. He will lead the institute after Ursula Rao has been appointed to the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle. Main areas of his teaching, research and publications are currently the Anthropology of social-ecological transformation worldwide, ethics and politics of the good life, social movements, and activist and performative research approaches. Moreover, he engages in teaching on South Asia. Empirically, he works with social-ecological movements and projects in Europe. He is an active member in the "Degrowth"-movement and in projects for strong sustainability and solidarity economy. Until 2010, Ulrich Demmer has researched for many years in South Asia and published on ethics and politics of the good life, as well as ritual and perfomance.
Since 1 september 2020, Ulrich Demmer has taking over as head of the Institute of Anthropology and will be stand-in professor until a new permanent professor and head of department is being appointed.
